Acting or Action?

There is a saying I grew up with you have probably heard... "Don't talk about it, be about it!" It was a saying that pushed people beyond the simplicity of speech and into the  ambitiousness of action.

So how come so many fail to make the transition? Why is it our words speak so much louder than our actions and what does that say about our recover?

The Deceleration of Independence
We are quickly approaching the 4th of July, the day we celebrate our Independence as a people and as a nation. The freedoms we celebrate are all linked to this sacred document of national history. This document represents men of great stature and character gathered together to take a stand against tyranny.

When it comes to the documents of our lives does our independence from the tyranny of our hurts, habits, and hang-ups make us independent people?

The Matrix of Recovery

If we have admitted that we are powerless on our own and that we need help, where do we find that help? Do we try really hard to "do better"? Do we hide how we truly feel and pretend everything is "F.I.N.E."? Do we fake it until we make it?

In order to recover we must peel back the reality of our lives and search for the Player behind the scenes, the One that has the power to reconnect our broken circuits and reprogram our lives. Are you ready to enter the Matrix of Recovery?

The Backpack of Pain

Broken homes, addicted parents, poverty living, wealthy living, depression, abuse, cutting, anger, substance abuse, bullying and so much more become heavy bricks in what I like to call "The Backpack of Pain". With each new hurt, habit, or hang-up our packs become heavier and more visible. The weight and strain of carrying it becomes exhausting! And as we look around we are able to notice how many of our friends have the same pack on.

Why is it that many of us carry such heavy loads at such early ages? Most of what we carry in our adolescent years shapes the very structure of our adulthood. So, don't you want to lighten your load?

Have a Pet Gorilla

We have heard it before... "Denial is not a river in Egypt", but what if it's an angry albino gorilla in your living room?

The only difference between those who need recovery from a hurt, habit, or hang up and those who want recovery is that those who want it are ready to admit they have a problem that is causing significant damage from rampage behaviors. For them, the gorilla in the room can no longer be ignored or rationalized away.
